What We Do
The Palette Fund honors the legacy of Rand Harlan Skolnick through collaborative grantmaking and programs that value human rights and education. Specifically, the foundation is focused on four health and/or social issues: the role of nutrition in healthcare and cancer, LGBT youth, HIV/AIDS and patient navigation. Rand committed his heart and soul to his philanthropic work throughout his life, and The Palette Fund seeks to continue and grow his pioneering vision.
Guiding Principles
- Innovation – We look for programs and individuals that demonstrate pioneering leadership.
- Risk-taking – We prioritize areas where support from traditional foundations and government agencies might not be accessible.
- Collaboration – We believe that working closely with other foundations, learning from best practices and leveraging resources are essential to achieving impact.
- Transparency – We require transparency and clear communication between our staff, partners and grantees, providing continuous opportunities for learning.
- Spirit – We are committed to bringing a positive attitude, compassion and integrity to the individuals we serve, our work relationships and our partnerships.
Grant Requests
- Organizations eligible for grants must address a compelling need in one of the program areas, and demonstrate a direct impact on the lives of beneficiaries.
- Grant decisions will be made based on extensive due diligence including: evaluation of direct impact, financial performance and projections, governance and management capacity and peer review.
- An advisory committee of experts in each area informs Palette’s grantmaking programs and ensures its relevancy.
